Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports start 2017 with positive developments in traffic

The two commercial airports operated by Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, Leipzig/Halle and Dresden International, recorded positive developments in the first month of the year. 210,895 passengers in all passed through the two airports, an increase of 5.5 percent over the figure for the same period in the previous year.

Dresden Airport registered 99,783 passengers during the first month of the year. This corresponded to an increase of 7.5 percent over 2016. Scheduled services on domestic and international routes developed in a particularly encouraging manner.

The number of passengers at Leipzig/Halle Airport increased by 3.8 percent in January to a figure of 111,112 compared to the same month in the previous year. In addition to domestic services, tourist traffic grew positively – apart from routes to Turkey. There were increases on the services to Egypt, Morocco, Spain and Portugal. Cargo volumes also continued to develop in an encouraging manner at Europe’s fifth largest freight airport. The amount handled at Leipzig/Halle rose by 6.9 percent to approx. 84,782 tonnes at the beginning of the year.
